My immigrant students are working towards gaining fluency in the English language. They come from Spanish, Russian, Marshallese, and other primary language backgrounds. Our school is a large public middle school in Oregon that has received awards for the progress that these students have made, despite the fact that a majority of our students come from homes with an income below the national poverty level.
