We have the distinct pleasure of working with a wonderful group of children between the ages of three and five who are either diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) or may exhibit characteristics associated with this disorder. ASD is manifested by significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. Our program addresses these challenges and provides a positive environment for these children, who thrive on routine and structure. Every day provides a new challenge, but along with that, a new reward. For children with special needs and sensory integration disorders such as ours, sensory play can be particularly therapeutic, and they participate in these activities on a daily basis. They serve a variety of purposes: soothing our anxious children, engaging our distracted children, and serving as an outlet for our distressed children. The children not only enjoy these activities, but thrive on them.
