As a fourth-year teacher I am adding to my collection of manipulatives. These tools will help me support my students with their academic struggles and, in the long run, their life skills. I may have the next Albert Einstein in my class! These tools will also help my students build confidence in themselves as growing mathematicians! The calculators will help my wonderful students with basic arithmetic to complex mathematics preventing them from progressing onto bigger ideas. The compass will help reach those students that are visual and kinesthetic learners to view mathematical problems explicitly and creating a learning environment for meaningful conversations in Math. Working with a partner builds on their leadership skills and effective communication. We are ALL mathematicians and we can use these tools to learn how to do math and find that math is FUN!
