One tool we use to teach emerging readers is called a Big Book. Big Books get their name because... you guessed it- they're big! And that matters! The physical size of a Big Book helps the entire group to see the text better whether in-person or online. While an interactive whiteboard is another great tool that could accomplish something similar, a physical Big Book has an advantage! With a physical Big Book, we can model Concepts About Print including how to hold a book, open a book, where to start, where to go next, and how to turn the page! In addition to helping teach Concepts About Print, Lakeshore's Word Family Big Book collection features 20 original titles that are intentionally written to include specific phonics pattern. Your support of this project will have a big impact on my students' reading growth by providing them with new practice opportunities to apply their phonics skills in context! The texts also feature full-color illustrations that will keep my readers revisiting these books again and again! Thank you for your consideration.
