Students will explore properties of matter, such as magnetism and density, through hands-on experimentation. Kids love magnetic study! They thoroughly enjoy making iron "creatures" crawl out from under the sand that was previously included in a mixture. With these materials my one hundred students will be able to study life science and organisms up close and personal. They will observe, measure, and compare the growth of our plants. They will journal about and graph their findings. Students will have the opportunity to harvest and even taste what they have grown! LED lamps are necessary since my classroom does not provide adequate light for growth. Clay pebbles are used in hydroponic gardens in order to allow proper irrigation and prevent the growth of mold. Additionally my students will often have integrated STEAM experiences allowing them to create and invent. They never cease to amaze me with the versatility of a pipe cleaner and the inventiveness just a few can inspire.
