Kindergartners experience so much growth in so many ways throughout the school year. Growth in reading is no exception. Most students begin as pre-readers who will "pretend" read with picture books but end the year as emergent readers that gravitate toward beginner reader books. Regardless of what level students are at, inspiring students to read with rich literature and non-fiction text is essential. While my classroom library includes many enriching titles, my students often have trouble finding them because they are stored in baskets on a flat rolling cart which are difficult for five-year-olds to reach. I have carried a few baskets to the floor for easier browsing, but then the students are limited in their choices. I have considered getting standard bookshelves, but, again, the baskets make for easier browsing and bookshelves do not have the depth needed for baskets of books. The mobile book organizer is not only sturdy and transportable, but also allows for easy book-choosing in categorized bins. In an era where books are taking a backseat to digital media, this book cart will provide a safe, pleasing invitation to read more books.
