I teach at Innovation Academy, a public STEM magnet high school in Fulton County, GA. Our school is in its second year, and I'm currently working with freshmen, sophomore, and juniors -- next year, we'll have our very first graduating class! As an ELA teacher at a STEM school, I think a lot about how to engage my students in meaningful, relevant work that addresses both their STEM brains and their humanities brains. One way I've done this is through film study and literary club (side note: I'm also working towards a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction, and a lot of my work and my thinking is centered on how STEM students engage with reading and visual arts and outside-the-typical-STEM realm things). It is my mission to provide my students with the skills and experiences to help them become effective communicators, passionate thinkers, and life-long learners.
