Having the items on my list in my office will allow my students to have that safe place to help them feel as though they are at home, in a comfortable environment, as opposed to a strict school environment. We are creating peaceful environments that increase security, comfort and learning in their highly stressful world. These spaces will have more comforts of a home environment rather than that of a traditional school environment. I will be creating several different areas in my office to allow students to self-calm, create artistic projects to express their feelings, and have a cozy place to relax when things get stressful at school. The dining table will be used for small group meetings with students and when students need some time to draw or create using kinetic sand or playdough. The smaller cafe style table will be used in a calm down corner called "The Cave" to allow students a private area in the room to calm themselves. The chairs will be added to my "living room" where I already have a love seat and rug. This will allow that "homey" feeling.
