The materials I am requesting for my students will allow them to have at home learning experiences that are consistent with the instruction they would receive if school was in person. The use of our a document camera and whiteboards is necessary for the development of both literacy and math skills. Students will be able to replicate skills that they observe the teacher modeling using the document camera. The math counters and play-doh will allow students to have physical objects that they can manipulate when mastering skills such as number sense, addition, and subtraction. These objects will also be useful in developing the fine motor skills of the students. The notebooks, pencils, and crayons will allow my students to journal about their interests, while enhancing their writing skills. The chart paper and markers will allow us to establish a morning meeting routine that incorporates a morning message, a practice that is essential for building relationships with students and developing social and emotional learning skills.
Although learning pre-kindergarten topics virtually at home is challenging because early learners need hands on experiences to develop skills that will serve as the foundation for all of their future learning, the resources provided through this project will allow meaningful learning to take place at home for every student in my class.
My goal is to provide my students with the most enriching learning experiences possible, even if those experiences have to be created through a computer screen.
