The diversity at my school is one of the most fascinating aspects of my job. I get to see kids of all different races, from all over the world, interact in such positive ways. We have a large population of ELL (English Language Learners) students, many of them refugees. Many of our students live in poverty and rely on their meals at school as their only source of food. It is important for our school to provide a safe environment where students can expect academic and emotional support every single day. In my kindergarten class, I get to see these children work together, play together and laugh together. I have managed to build a strong sense of community each year, that the students carry on into the higher grades. My students become independent, strong-willed thinkers who love to learn and can always make me laugh. I see my students make miraculous improvements day by day, as they become independent readers and writers by the end of the year.
