Our classroom has ceramic tile flooring and only one small classroom rug. The tile is cold and uncomfortable, so my students prefer to read or be read to on the rug. The problem is that our rug is way too small! Only part of them can can sit on it at a time. The rest of them have to sit on the tile floor or on a chair behind the rug. Sitting on the tile floor makes it difficult to stay focused and concentrate. Using chairs behind the rug takes time away from their reading to move the chairs around. It also separates them by putting them on different levels which makes it more difficult to share books and discuss them with each other. A new classroom rug will take care of all of these difficulties.
