Research shows that Play Therapy is an effective tool for helping children who may not have the vocabulary to express themselves. More and more children come to school while dealing with challenging emotions. It is very difficult to focus on learning when they are unable to cope with traumatic events in their private lives. Play Therapy in the schools has helped children successfully navigate their emotions and focus on their education. The materials that I am requesting, such as dollhouse furniture, block play people, a dollhouse and playsand, will be used specifically during school-based Sandtray Therapy as well as general Play Therapy. It is my goal to have 6 weekly sessions with students whose behavior is keeping them from being productive in the classroom.
