I have chosen various books about feelings, board games, and stress balls for the new counseling office at our new charter school in New Orleans! This office is a blank slate right now and we do not have any resources to build the program! I chose many different feelings books and collaborative board games that are multiculturally appropriate for this population of students. Visuals are important for young students in the learning process. I additionally chose a comfortable bean bag chair and cushions for the students to use, so that the comfortable counselor's corner is different from other spaces in the school. The storage bins will contain the new materials. I believe these resources will make a difference in these students' lives because they may not have had effective counseling programs at their previous schools. Tools and visuals are vital for children to learn effectively. I believe that the books and games I have chosen will assist students with various learning styles in working out their problems and building their coping mechanisms.
