Greenpower is a dynamic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiative that encompasses a wide variety of skills. The goal of this program is to expose students to the world of engineering & innovation. That goal is accomplished in an exciting & engaging way with Greenpower. In my Greenpower Tech class I have fifteen students that were chosen from over 100 applicants. In the class I have three sixth graders, four seventh graders, & eight eighth graders. Five of the students are girls & 10 are boys. Greenpower runs engineering challenges for schools based around designing and building a single seat electric powered race car. Some have had experience with tools and such, but most have never done anything like this and are learning so much & having so much fun. Next year we will be adding a second class & race car to our team to expand the impact to more students.
