As students transition into middle school math, the need for a calculator to help them solve problems increases greatly. My Charter uses the SpringBoard Math curriculum, which focuses on college preparation. The SpringBoard curriculum emphasizes conceptual understanding of the math taught in the classroom. With TI Scientific Calculators, my students will be able to focus their time on developing an understanding of the concepts learned by having the ability to compute and check their answers efficiently. Though calculators are a popular item on a middle school math supply list, many students do not have calculators at their disposal. In 6th and 7th grade, calculators are regularly utilized to help students check their answers and also to help students calculate difficult problems such as problems involving long division with irrational numbers. With your generous donations, my students will be able to focus on understanding the "how and why" of math rather than the computation and algorithm.
