There are two major impending events on the way for my students: their state standardized test and a grant that will finally award them technology in the classroom. As excited as I am about the new technology that will come, I know that amid this excitement, there will be some challenges of balancing the logistics of test prep and differentiation. Although my students will have the Chromebooks to engage in alternative online programs, they will not have the headphones to listen to the content without providing a major distraction for the rest of my class. Regarding the test prep season, a large majority of my students are English Language Learners meaning that although many are fluent in English, they still do not know what the meanings of many vocabulary words are. As a result, I have taught them how to use the dictionary so that they can learn the meanings of their unknown words and so that they do not rely on me for every meaning of a word they do not know. Unfortunately, I have never had a full set of working dictionaries and the ones that I do have are tattered and broken. I am so far just requesting 15 dictionaries so that my class can use the dictionaries in partners for now.
