  • Inspiring Books for a High School Math Teacher

    Funded Feb 25, 2025

Thank you so much for supporting my professional development and my teaching. As an avid reader of best teaching practices, I like to put my learning into action. I am a firm believer that as I implement the practices that I encounter in the books, my students are impacted in a positive way. In this case, I am honored to let you know that as a results of the books your foundation funded, I included brief connections to the history of mathematics in my math lessons. I also had my students compare and contrast symbols that represent big ideas in mathematics. I have included one such example in the photos. In this case, my students were asked to compare the symbols for congruence and for similarity as an invitation to learn and to engage in deeper analysis and discussion. As a result of the books that you graciously provided, I also started implementing the practice of journaling. My students were able to think more deeply as a result of such practice. Thank you so much for your donation and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • Hands-On Geometry: a Building Bricks Approach

    Funded Feb 12, 2025

Thank you for making our project titled "Hands-On Geometry: a Building Bricks Approach" a reality! Your donation provided my students with building bricks (similar to legos) and an invaluable fun and engaging learning experience! My students used these building blocks to discover important geometric relationships. One of the first relationships my students discovered by playing with the building bricks was the Triangle Inequality. Then, my students confirmed the Pythagorean Theorem. They also discovered the Converse of the Pythagorean Theorem. As we move towards the end of the academic year, my students will be using these bricks to construct different irregular shapes and then find the perimeter, area, and volume of such designs. Thank you for being such a valuable contributor to my students' education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • Ping Pong Pyramids: Discovering Mathematical Patterns in 3D

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

Thank so much for your donation. Your contribution made our "Ping Pong Pyramids: Discovering Mathematical Patterns in 3D" a reality. My students were able to analyze, visualize, and create patterns that led them to the discovery of several mathematical formulas. Such formulas include the Riemann sums from i=1 to n of 1 and the sum of the first n natural numbers.

My students also created other geometric patterns which included pyramids made of squared-patterns formed by ping pong balls on each layer. These patterns gave them the opportunity to experience the sum of the squares of the first n natural numbers in a visual format.

In addition, your donation inspired inquiry, discovery, and very rich productive mathematical discourse.

Thank you for being such a valuable contributor to my students' learning journey.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • Mathematical Modeling: A Playful Approach

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your contribution. We used the materials your donation provided to introduce the concept of mathematical modeling. My students also had the opportunity to practice disciplinary literacy.

My students were super excited when they saw the materials. Several of them mentioned that they have not seen barbies for several years. After they completed the task, they mentioned that this was really fun! My students were able to make predictions, collect data, take measurements, define variables, plot the data, and refine their models.

Once again, thank you so much for your contribution!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • Empowering Financial Gaming Experience

    Funded Nov 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom. Let me inform you that we have used the game Monopoly to provide my students with very valuable financial learning experiences.

My students were extremely excited once they saw the boxes of Monopoly in my room. As they walked in, they asked "are we playing Monopoly today?" with jubilant voices.

Through this task, my students learned and engaged with the financial ideas of decision-making, wealth, properties, bankruptcy, money, investment, and rent. We also talked about risks, rewards, and probabilities. These learning experiences were only possible thanks to your donation. We appreciate your support!”

  • Introducing Mathematical Proofs with UNO: A Fun and Engaging Approach

    Funded Nov 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your donation and for making our project titled "Introducing Mathematical Proofs with UNO: A Fun and Engaging Approach" a reality. I am honored to share with you that we used the uno cards to introduce the concept of mathematical proof in a meaningful, relevant, and fun way to students.

My students were super excited once they saw the UNO cards. As you may see in the pictures, my students were making sequences of cards that will take them from the beginning (given) to the Prove level (the last card).

We will continue using these cards to promote logical reasoning and also to introduce some concepts of probability theory. Thank you for being a valuable partner in my students' educational journey!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • Counting with a Rekenrek

    Funded Nov 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your donation. Thanks to your donation, many of my students were able to use a Rekenrek for the first time in their lives. I am happy to inform you that my students used these tools to count and subitize. We even used the Rekenreks to introduce very important concepts of probability theory.

Thanks to your donation, we were able to extend the use of these tools and introduce the concepts of sets, subsets, sample size, events, and complements of events.

When I asked students what they thought about using the tools you have provided, they were very grateful because they learned through a hands-on fun experience. This was possible because of your generous donation! As we move on, we will be using the Rekenreks to introduce other concepts of probability theory and to continue improving my students' number sense. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • Financial Literacy: Reading in the Math Classroom!

    Funded Mar 31, 2018

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom and community of learners via our project titled "Financial Literacy: Reading in the Math Classroom!" The financial literacy books your donation provided have motivated my students to learn meaningful mathematics as they read with a purpose. These books have served as an inspiration to learn via projects (discussions-based). In addition, we brought reading to the math classroom, thus intervening and closing both achievement and opportunity gaps as we used financial literacy. In addition, my students became aware of important financial literacy concepts that we have linked to many mathematics problems that we have encountered as we master our Common Core State Standards for both content and mathematical practices!

Once again, on my behalf, and the behalf of my students, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your donation and amazing contribution to our learning process!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • Stories and Financial Literacy to Inspire Maths Learning

    Funded Mar 31, 2018

Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom and community of learners with your donation via our project titled "Stories and Financial Literacy to Inspire Maths Learning." Your donation provided books that have allowed us to have our class library of math stories and financial literacy materials.

We used these books to link reading and/or story-telling to the development of mathematical concepts through the connections between the story or the financial concepts and the mathematical concept(s) at hand.

Moreover, these books have been a great tool for differentiated instruction for we connected the arts of reading, speaking, listening, story-telling, financial literacy, and visual learning with that of mathematics.

In addition, my students have seen a variety of mathematical concepts both in a fiction-based format (through stories) and through applications (via financial literacy).

Thank you so much for your amazing contribution! My students and I are so grateful for your existence and contribution! Thank you for making a great difference in our lives!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jauregui

  • From Rocket Science to Quadratics: Modeling Projectile Motion

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom by funding our project titled "From Rocket Science to Quadratics: Modeling Projectile Motion." Your donation provided rocket launchers and kits that we utilized to create rockets, launch them, and model with mathematics as we analyzed the motion and pathway such rockets followed.

My students created and launched rockets. They also recorded the data in order to motivate the discussion and the need for the concepts from our unit on quadratic functions. We used rockets, the launchers, and the parachutes as artifacts that once in motion created a pathway for the one we could use quadratic functions to find parameters that linked the concepts of projectile motion to that of quadratic functions.

Thank you so much for making such a memorable learning experience for my students so memorable! Looking forward to many more productive collaboration efforts with you!”
