The transition to middle school is intimidating for many students, since, in elementary, they are used to classrooms that provide several types of seating options. By providing my sixth graders with more flexible seating I hope to make the transition to middle school less intimidating resulting in a more effective learning environment. When incoming sixth graders come to the first day of middle school science I want to them to think "Hey, this isn't so different from my 5th-grade classroom!" Helping students to feel more comfortable in my classroom is essential for them to focus and get excited about learning.
