Flexible seating? What is that? Many teachers are transforming their classrooms in an effort to make their learning spaces more student-centered. Research supports that students who have the choice are more successful and an effective learner. According to an article on Edutopia about flexible seating: "flexible seating includes burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture". Playdoh to Pluto states that "Rather than confining kids to traditional tables and chairs, teachers are giving students lots of different seating options so that children can take control of their learning and find a classroom workspace that feels best to them". I am asking for standing desks for our classroom to offer flexible seating. I want to make my classroom student-centered.
