My students in grades 3-5 are resilient and resourceful learners. Many of them live in the low-income housing projects neighboring our school, a district impacted by gangs, drugs, and cyclical poverty. There is no performing arts group at the school. Many of these students have no access to resources needed to enable and demonstrate their creativity. There is no performing arts group at the school. This project will nurture students' artistic abilities, empowering them for positive self-expression and visions of an ideal future. In stark contrast to the prevailing publicized elements of drugs and violent crimes linked to the neighborhood, students' representation in these major performances is a holistic solution for positive collaboration with their school, families and community.
