A welcoming, comfortable environment enriches student learning. Flexible seating options, such as bean bag chairs, offers a choice on where to learn within the classroom/library. Student choice allows them to take ownership of their learning and, in this case, choose a seat and location that works best for them. Ownership of learning is fundamental for student engagement. When allowed to select their own space, students are more engaged in activities. The bean bag chairs offer a great flexible seating option for students in middle school and will serve to promote independent reading/writing, as well as offer a fun group seating area. I encourage library visitation during the students' free time, such as early morning and lunch. Bean bag chairs will draw students to the library and help them feel welcome along with providing a comfortable seating option.
