Think back to your first days in kindergarten, when your teacher was the first person to look after you other than your family. Think back to when you were put into a new room with other peers your age that you most likely didn't know, wondering "why is my mother leaving me with all of these strange people?" Well this is the case for most of my babies that walk in my room for the first time each year. I become their mother away from home, and it is my job to create a safe and fun learning environment. In order to do this, I routinely schedule my day knowing the importance of building a strong classroom community. We build a community in which we are a respectful team of people working together to help one another become more successful in our learning and in life. I work to build this community in a special place in our room, one that is marked by colorful duct tape for now, but I know my students deserve a fun, colorful, and more comfortable rug for their bodies to learn and grow.
