English Language Learners depend on their experiences at school to develop their English language skills. With a well-rounded listening library, they will experience more read alouds as their English-dominant peers have over the years. Most of my students have had interrupted schooling or have missed early years of schooling as they were in refugee camps. They will benefit from classics that were shared in early years of school. Through shared reading they will develop the background knowledge many of their peers already have. Further, my students' English grammar and rhythm is automatically developed through listening to real literature from a number of authors.
