When we start any project or lesson in art I try to give my students as much choice as possible. I do not teach "cookie cutter" arts and crafts. Instead I help my students nurture their own creative mind and find the things that inspire them to create. It's extremely important that the student feels they have control over their artwork and freedom to move in any direction their imagination might take them. Many of my students will ask for pictures of specific things they are trying to draw and I want them to have autonomy and be able to search for the images they need for their artwork. If the project gets funded, my students will be able search for text or visual references print their findings during class. This way students can make more complex artwork that is informed through their research or the imagery that they use to support what they make.
