My students have completed a hands-on study of soil science, including soil boring, measuring compaction, creating soil jars, testing soil temperatures and more in both prairie and woodlands. We are currently studying growing seeds in different types of soils and conditions. We would like to compare and contrast our seed germination with a hydroponic garden. We have also begun an inquiry and STEM unit on Mars and the "Goldilocks Zone" of our solar system, and the students would love to learn more about hydroponics as a solution to how we can make a planet like Mars habitable.
