School is not only an institution in which students learn academics; students also learn valuable social skills that they take with them to their community and use throughout their lives. We believe that when a student comes to our classroom, they are seeking a safe space. Students want to learn how to get along with others but need guidance from a caring adult who will accept them when they have done wrong and not look upon them as if change is not possible. A new mindset helps to set the tone for change and is the first step on the road to recovery from negative learned attitudes and behaviors. Part of this process is creating the proper environment, a relaxing environment where students can let their guard down. We seek partners to help fund the three sofas in our De-Escalation Room so that students who may be involved in conflict can relax their tense bodies and be open to learning new methods for handling their emotions. Please consider being a part of this very special change process in the lives of our youth.
