Although the school is well-funded for art supplies, there is less funding for technology, which is integral to a 2018 classroom. Even in art class, computers are essential for students to keep up with the class assignments, check grades, complete research, write artist statements, find reference images, watch video tutorials, and have access to the curriculum via Google Drive and the class website. Most of this can be done on a cell phone, but it is not preferable. I have seen firsthand in my experience teaching that a cell phone-free classroom is essential for maximum learning and minimal interruption. Alternative devices are needed in order for students to access curriculum and art content in a meaningful, distraction-free environment. I am asking for 6 Class Chromebooks that students can use throughout the year for this purpose.
