Flexible seating gives students the ability to control their own environment. The traditional classroom environment poses challenges for many students with special needs. Flexible seating can assist in leveling the playing field for students with sensory needs and for students that need to be able to move around as they learn. Having a sense of control is a major factor in helping students with special needs to feel successful. With access to flexible seating, students with special needs have the ability to be actively engaged in their leaning. For this project, I chose wobble chairs, balance balls, and large stacking chairs. Having a choice in seating will minimize distractibility and encourage academic success.
