So often I hear people saying, "My child' school provides a laptop for every student!" Unfortunately, my students don't have access to such technology on a daily basis. My students come from a mostly Hispanic and low income environment. Providing materials can often be a challenge. With as many as 34 students per teacher, finding exact matches for a student's can be a challenge. Normally, teachers are asked to provide books from levels A to Z. In some classrooms, reading levels can vary from A to Z. In upper grades, a teacher could be asked to provide thousands different levels through out the year, in order to serve each student (34 students x 20 different levels x 5 books per level=3500) . Teachers would rather spend this time teaching students, rather than sorting and tracking thousands of books a year. Having, a few Kindles would be a great start. I'd love to have 30 for my room, but two would be a great start!
