McKinley's STEAM classes need more material to increase engagement in all areas of learning. This year I've taught a 3-5 year old STEAM class and a 0-5 year old STEAM class. Next year we are looking into adding STEAM to a couple more classes and hopefully other programs within the building. To make this work though we need to purchase more STEAM materials so a variety is available to multiple classes. Topics this year were: colors, shapes, patterns, ramps, building, push & pull, five senses, sound, music, shadows, measuring, plants, bugs, water, and one week at the nature center. Some of the activities throughout these weeks consisted of making homemade instruments, building different sizes and testing out ramps with toy cars and balls, planting vegetables, fruits, and flowers, creating individual green houses, tracing individuals on large paper, and much more.
