I intend to transform the library media program at our school one step at a time. I envision a flexible learning environment that our students will long to be in before, during and after school. This space is full of opportunities honoring student choice and valuing all learning styles: challenge tables, literature circles, reading buddies, makerspaces, creation stations, research centers for group and independent study, cozy reading nooks and technology available for everything from genius hour to creating digital story books. By donating to our project you will help our students gain confidence and learn the value of collaboration, creative problem solving and community. These skills are essential for students to become college and career ready. This particular project includes materials needed for the first challenge table I hope to provide, "Build It". Students will use building materials they do not typically have access to like Magna-Tiles, K'NEX, Totter Towers, Gears and Squigz. These materials will provide limitless possibilities for open ended activities and independent learning. Challenge cards will be available daily for each grade level, K-5, and building materials will be rotated. These materials will be available to staff throughout the year as well, positively impacting students and achievement in the classroom. Throughout my career I have witnessed the impact of student choice in my classroom. It motivates, enriches growth and fosters imagination. Now I want to see what it can do in our library. Please help me inspire our students to dream, discover and believe in themselves.
