We have a wonderful opportunity for the students in our building, but we need your help to make this a reality! Award-winning children’s author, Alan St. Jean, is willing to come to our school as part of his Author-in-Residence Writing Olympics program. He would spend 4 full days with our students, engaging them in all aspects of the writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, editing, and publishing. Students would receive meaningful instruction from a published author, plus feedback and encouragement as well. The week begins with a kick-off assembly to teach students about the writing process in an engaging and motivating way. Mr. St. Jean will then spend the majority of the week with each class individually for 60-minute Writing Workshop blocks in which each classroom will work together with him to create an original narrative piece of writing. The week would end with a culminating Writing Olympics celebration and competition between the different classes, involving a rubric and panel of judges. Each student would end the week with the excitement and experience of working as a team with Mr. St. Jean to craft, edit, and publish a piece of writing. Your donation will go towards Mr. St. Jean’s fee for the weekly commitment, and would allow 400 students to feel empowered, equipped, and encouraged as readers and writers. Thank you so much for helping our students grow!
