Having books for our classroom listening center will benefit my students by allowing them to see and hear books read to them on cd and tape. The center will be used daily by a small group of students and each student will rotate through the center each day. I will make sure each student has a book to hold allowing them to follow along with the cd or tape.
Kindergarten age children love to be read and having a classroom fully stocked listening center will help them to develop fluency, reading, and listening skills. It will also help them learn to follow along with the printed word on the page. At this age of development, children need to hear the inflections used.
A listening center that is well-stocked models good interpretive reading, teaches critical listening skills, highlights the humor in books, introduces new genres that students might not otherwise encounter, introduces new vocabulary, and provides a read-aloud model.
I believe that the books I have requested for our listening center will help enhance our daily lessons.
