A set of Makey Makey kits in the makerspace will allow the children to explore how electrical conductors play a role in things they use every day. Once the children have mastered the electrical principles, they have a chance to get creative and make several different controllers and objects with the Makey Makey. They especially have the chance to create tools for those with limited dexterity, which provides an opportunity to solve a real problem. Using the Makey Makey is the first opportunity for students to think outside the traditional computer box and begin creating objects of their own using the computer as a base. The computer becomes a tool rather than a game box. Once students learn the possibilities, I can only imagine some of the problems they will solve with the inventions they create.
