Currently, my kindergarten classroom has two small book shelves with old unleveled books having the readability that is difficult for the age of my students. When matching books to the reading needs of my students, I need to know the level of each book and also provide picture books rich in vocabulary. Students need to know most of the words when they choose a book to read independently. My students come to school excited and ready to learn every day, rain or shine. My students attend a National Title 1 school, they receive free lunch and they come from extremely challenging backgrounds. Good readers are also good writers.
