The environment in my class is very welcoming and well organized, but the furnishings are made for older students. The chairs are over sized and heavy for 7 year old children. This affects student health and safety, as well as limiting our academic possibilities. Students engage in hands-on and group activities which necessitates the arranging and rearranging of seating--but the chairs they have now weigh 22 pounds each. Students risk injury each time they attempt to set up the classroom in ways that meet their needs. The lighter weight and more age-appropriate chairs I'm asking for will make arranging the room for our learning needs possible.
