Many of my students come from low income backgrounds and do not have access to the internet in their homes. I have used Khan Academy as a supplement to my current instruction in the classroom. This program allows students to work at their own pace, and when they make a mistake, it provides the students with a hint and even a video tutorial. This type of individualized instruction allows me to work with those students who need more one-on-one instruction. It is my goal to help my students become successful 21st century learners, so a set of Chromebooks would allow my students opportunities they would not normally have outside of the classroom. We would use these Chromebooks for accessing Khan Academy, and students will also use them for keyboarding and other computer science related curriculum. My fifth grade students will be introduced to computer science this upcoming year, and they will need practice their newfound skills. The technology we are requesting will help make a huge impact on our students. They will have the resources they need to further develop their math and computer science skills now, be better prepared for high school math, and be college and career ready.
