I currently have several mats pushed together for the kids to sit on during direct instruction time. If they had a carpet with colorful, geometric squares, it would help focus their young minds on the lesson instead of trying figure out in which section of the mat they should be seated. Given the proper carpet, they could be assigned a colored square, then they wouldn't have to think about it again once they're seated. Beside the carpet, during small group time the desk easel would allow all students in the group to see the lesson examples. This would free my hands to do other things beside hold the book or board as currently do.
