As we navigate through the 21st century it is apparent that technology is becoming more predominant in classrooms, textbooks are being replaced with tablets. As educators, it is our responsibility to ensure we are preparing our students for a digital future.
These 21st century skills are essential in order to be successful this day and age. Jobs in the past that didn’t have a digital component, may have one in the future.
Technology has proven to improve rentention rate, make learning more fun, pre students for the future, allow students to learn at their own pace, and connects students globally.
With your support my students will have access to learning management systems - that they are required to use in order to utilize resources and submit assignments. For example, Google classroom, eClass, Canvas, or Blackboard.
In addition to a LMS, tablets will provide students the opportunity to bring into play apps that can enhance their learning.
To prepare for assessments, students will use kahoot, quizziz, and quizlet reviewing skills taught in class.
Class Dojo is used as a classroom management system to reinforce positive behaviors. Class Dojo now allows students to take part in the fun with student portfolios, which enables students to take ownership of their class norms and expectations. This application is also my favorite tool to communicate with parents; and in this digital age, parents appreciate the immediate feedback Class Dojo provides as well.
Flip-grid and Gsuite will be used to bring global awareness to the classroom. This platform allows students to communicate with their peers in their community and on a larger scale, globally.
To support literacy my students use the following apps routinely throughout the year: ThingLink, Nearpod, BrainPOP, Readworks, NewsELA, and Epic. Additionally, students can practice coding on code.org.
