A strong foundation in early childhood can have an incredible impact on student learning long term. Some of the most important skills developed in early childhood is social emotional learning skills that help students learn 21st century skills like communicating, problem-solving, mindfulness, and collaborating with others. For that reason I am asking for books like Waiting, Move Your Mood, Red: A Crayon’s Story, and My Friend Is Sad. Students coming from low income households hear roughly 30 million fewer words than their more affluent peers. My students need visual anchors like number lines, alphabet charts, and personal nameplates to make the verbal and visual connections their learning requires. Practice writing in journals will also help my students connect their learning to the stories in their lives. Thank you for contributing to my classroom, and I look forward to keeping our project updated on Donors Choose!
