I currently work for a Title I school in the bronx in which, I help low income students reach their potential to be the best they can be. Many of my students are new to this country and they require more visuals. Although many of my students come to me with 1s and 2s, i try to maximize their potential and show everyone that they are capable of receiving a level 3 or 4 on the math state exam. As their teacher, I try my best to allow them to express themselves through their work since math is the same across all languages. Since my students are ENL learners, demonstrating the work live allows them make stronger connections with the material. Of course in mathematics, anytime that you can demonstrate your understanding to the class, it allows all levels of students multiple entry ways into the lesson.
