I have been the Orchestra Director at Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music since 2005. The students here never cease to amaze me and inspire me. It is for them that I want to work my hardest to find them great opportunities and refine my craft as a teacher. An example...last Spring I felt I was leaning too heavily on the standard "classical repertoire" and needed to balance out their skill set with some popular music. After programming a groovy South American tune I thought they'd love they begged me for more Brahms instead! (We played both) These students don't always come equipped with great technique and musical backgrounds. They certainly come with buckets of enthusiasm. Teenagers eager to learn and be great at what they do; for me, it's as good as it gets. We work hard. We make great music. And we love doing it!
