Most people realize that students with learning disabilities need extra support, but the other students sometimes need that too. I teach English language arts in a regular ed classroom, but I still have students who get anxious or have ADHD or just simply can't sit still for an hour. My school has decided to cut recess down to one day a week. I agree with the reasons for doing this, but these kids still need an outlet. They're good kids, but with so much pent-up energy, they frequently get into trouble. This can manifest as incessant talking, getting up and walking around the room, or other distracting and off-task behaviors. I believe a lot of this could be avoided if they were able to use under-the-desk pedals while reading, writing, and thinking when their energy has been channeled productively. I can see my students actually enjoying spending time reading while pedaling under their desks.
