The students in my 7th grade math classroom are funny, bright facing all of the challenges of middle school relationships, and puberty They have the same hopes and dreams as many children - to go to college, to raise families and to be successful. However, even at their young age they are becoming painfully aware that the deck is stacked against them. Growing up in one of the most impoverished cities in New Jersey takes a toll....... extreme poverty means many don't have Internet access at home and 100% of the students qualify for free lunch. Yet, in spite of these overwhelming odds, they remain hopeful about the future and are desperate to defy all the odds and be successful. They are passionate about learning and their faces light up when math lessons incorporate 21st century technology. Their passion and excitement is contagious as they explore mathematics in ways that are meaningful and relevant.

About my class
