Learning is tough, no matter what... but having an external motivator is a great way to help students push through those moments when they just want to put their heads down on the desk. For some of my students, cheerleading is that motivation. CASH is in a Title 1 School District where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my cheerleaders are students with special needs and/or are English language learners. Some of our crew are struggling with identity issues and some of us are debating whether to apply for college or get a job to help out at home for a year or two. My cheerleaders have embraced their differences and created a culture of understanding and respect for the different backgrounds from which they come. It is amazing to see how much they care about one another.
