My students are phenomenal, they just don't know it. It's a special education class of multiple grade levels & needs. The class consists of learning disorders, attention deficit disorders, & autism spectrum disorders. They attend a public school where the majority receive free or reduced price lunch plans, yet high quality is the only kind of education offered. My students have such wonderful, vibrant personalities. They first enter my classroom thinking they can't do much because not much has ever been expected; they learn quickly that I expect the best- their best- & my high expectations aren't impossible to achieve. I love seeing them blossom when they realize "I can do this!" The social skills of my ASD students form, grow, & strengthen to prove they're some of the smartest, caring individuals. Those with learning "disorders" realize they've just unique ways of learning that make them more than average, not less.
