Imagine being asked to learn when you struggle to pay attention due to your body's need to move or wiggle. That is what students with special needs face every day. In a traditional classroom, we expect them to sit and pay attention without any distracting movement. For our students, that is close to impossible. Our class of special education students often have a very hard time sitting still and concentrating. Adding this large, comfortable rug will give our students a new option of somewhere to sit other than their traditional desk. In our small group classes, our students will have the option to sit or lay on the rug to complete work or listen to lectures. We are working to build a flexible classroom with multiple seating options, and this rug and the two calm lights I am requesting will be our first step to getting started.
