These books will help me create a diverse, representative, and anti-racist library within my classroom. Research shows that contextualized, literacy-based speech therapy is highly effective for students with communication disorders. My students deserve to see themselves in the books and stories they read at school; these books will provide windows and mirrors for them to grow and learn. It is still unclear what school will look like for us this year. Many of my students had difficulty with distance learning due to technological and connectivity issues, which made finding creative, interactive speech therapy materials difficult. Using books to target my students' goals--whether articulation, fluency (stuttering), social language, language expression, language processing--is effective and engaging via distance learning or in-person.
