Reading group time is an integral part of our reading program because students get to read at their ability level for that part of the day. Finding interesting non-fiction reading books at a second grade level is always challenging, because they are expensive. Many of my students are not as interested in fictional stories as they are non-fiction topics. They love learning about the real world at this age! Recently we were reading about earthquakes which turned into them asking for books about Tsunamis and Tornadoes and Glaciers. I cannot keep up! Getting these non-fiction book sets into their hands will make a huge impact on their reading progress.
