My students attend an inner city high school, are economically disadvantaged, and aspire to have a career in the healthcare professions. Overwhelmingly minority and female, they are enrolled in Biomedical Science courses. Where they engage in DNA analysis, performing PCR analysis, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Forensic Science, and Sports Medicine on a daily basis. They have specifically selected Medical, Dental, Nursing, and Allied health fields for future study. While attending our school, they also have the opportunity to become certified in EMT, and as a CNA. They are excited about their STEM education, and eagerly participate in inter-district academic health science competitions. They have a deep desire to appear as a uniform team and to be able to represent their school as a health science academy. In addition, they would wear their lab coats during health internships, and community volunteerism.
